Working principle When a lightning cloud layer is formed, an electric field is generated between the cloud layer and the ground, and the electric field intensity can reach 10kV / m or even higher. As a result, corona discharge began to appear on the raised parts of the ground or on metal parts. When a descending leader is formed inside the thunder cloud, lightning strikes begin. The descending pilot charge moves to the ground in a staircase. As the descending leader approaches the ground, it will issue an upward facing leader from the more prominent part of the ground. When the head-on leader meets the down-going leader, a strong “neutralization” process occurs, and a large current (tens to hundreds of thousands of amperes) appears. This is the main discharge phase of the thunderbolt, accompanied by thunder and flashes. Other buildings on the ground may generate several head-on pilots. The * oncoming leaders meeting with the descending pilot determine the location of the lightning strike. The working principle of the pre-discharge lightning rod is to generate a head-on pilot faster than the ordinary lightning rod. Before the formation of the natural on-the-spot leader, an early discharge lightning rod will take the lead to generate a leader, which will quickly propagate in the direction of the lightning until the lightning is captured and introduced into the ground. installation method
1. Installation of the lightning rod After the lightning rod components are assembled, the lightning rod is fixed on the base with bolts or welding. 1) When connecting lightning rods, connect them reliably. 2) After the installation is completed, the connection of the lightning rod or the coating on the metal surface is damaged, and the rust prevention treatment should be done.
2. Maintenance of lightning rods After the lightning rods are put into use, they should be inspected before the thunderstorm season according to the following: 1) The connections of the connecting parts of the lightning rods should be reliable and must not be loosened. 2) Check the total resistance of the lightning rod lightning receptor to the base ≤ 5Ω. 3) The lightning rod should be grounded through a down-conductor (dedicated or borrowed), and the grounding resistance is ≤10Ω. In areas with high soil resistivity, the requirements for ground resistance can be appropriately relaxed.
3. The protection range of the lightning rod The protection range of the lightning rod should be calculated according to the method specified in appendix IV of the "ball rolling method to determine the protection range of the lightning receptor" in GB50057-94 "Code for Design of Lightning Protection of Buildings".
