Out of all the concerts and festivals that ever existed, long before people hash tagged #coachella even though they are a gazillion miles away, there was Woodstock 1969. There is a 1 hour doc about this festival here. The line up for this festival pretty much still makes me squeal with excitement! On top of Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker,Creedence and Canned Heat, there was also The Who playing! But, more than any of those, I would have loved to see Jimi perform. I’ve watched his concert from Woodstock so many times. I taped it off SBS and watched it til the tape grew thin and scratchy at certain points. Recently you could watch the whole concert on youtube, but I couldn’t find it this time. I did find a preview to the whole video I am talking about here though.
My favorite Hendrix song is Voodoo Child, but at Woodstock, I have to say, the one that blows my mind (and everyone else’s) was The Star Spangled Banner. Now, I know nothing about playing the guitar, but the reason I love Hendrix is not only is he supremely talented, attractive and has amazing dress sense, he also pulls amazingly sexy faces when he plays guitar. I mean, I think if watching this 3 minutes and 51 doesn’t get you aroused, I don’t know what will! His face expressions! I just! Wow.
So, I thought for today I would wear what I would have worn to Woodstock ’69, or if me and my friend ever get our time machine working, what I will wear!
Everything about this outfit is thrifted ‘cept the belt and gumboots (wellingtons, rain shoes, what-have-you). I like that, it kind of suits what I am trying pull off by looking like I’m from 1969. The jacket is from an Op Shop in Niddrie several years ago, the white dress (worn as a shirt) is from my infamous Harvest Witch post and the skirt is from the bundle of things I scored on the weekend from Yesteryear Retro Clothing Sale that was happening.
So, thanks to my sister for taking these pictures, and while I think I am not muddy enough to actually be at Woodstock ’69, I think I managed pretty well. Wanna check out some actual pics from the festival? Life has a good collection here.
Ecstatically dancing – sixties style.
When I realize I’m not actually at Woodstock.
Anyway dreamers, have a happy Hump Day, and listen to some Hendrix and imagine how amazing that festival must have been – even with the rain.
